About the 2020 Perinatal Data Collaborative
Last updated: January February 2021
You can find the SurveyMonkey survey here. Community listening sessions will be held in person or over zoom. We are collaborating with communities and organizations across the state.
Why are we doing this?
Data is held by large healthcare systems, and government entities. To access them, we have to pay and they are expensive, inaccessible to the community, and delayed in their reporting
Data and outputs should be owned by community and not healthcare systems or government entities. Our goal is to return the story of birth outcomes to the community and for TMC to help be a conduit for that data.
We want to be reactive to the impacts of COVID-19 on birthing people and their rights in 2020. We want to vary data sources and instead focus on community organizations and community members’ direct answers.
We are collecting data on experiences of trauma, biases and impacts of historical racism during the perinatal period. This data is not often captured in perinatal data and therefore there isn’t a full image of the impacts of these traumas.
We want to elevate the impact of community-based organizations and how they support pregnant and parenting people especially through the COVID-19 pandemic.
What are we doing?
Asking community to complete our online survey to share their experiences in the perinatal timeframe. This can be completed by yourself, or with a doula, community health worker, social worker, partner, family member, etc.
We are collecting data on experiences of trauma, biases and impacts of historical racism during the perinatal period. This data is not often captured in perinatal data and therefore there isn’t a full image of the impacts of these traumas.
Partnering with community based organizations to share the survey, help clients complete it and to share their programmatic data to capture this information.
We are varying our data sources. Instead of getting data from medical systems, we are partnering with community organizations and community members to collect community experiences.
We hope our data will inform better policy and funding so it’s more community focused.
What will we do with the data?
We will aggregate meaning, roll up into higher level data. This means understanding trends, impacts across different communities
We will use a data visualization software to output the data and show our findings.
Who will have access to the data?
The Maternal Coalition staff and data team who have gone through HIPAA compliance training.
Data will not be accessible to the public, this includes individual data points and the full data set. Only our findings will be publicly released without any individual identifying information.
You can request your data at any time
Is my data protected?
Yes we purchased an upgraded version of SurveyMonkey to ensure it was HIPAA compliant.
The data is stored on encrypted and secured servers that are HIPAA compliant.
